Windows XP Preview
October 15, 2001

Well the newest installment of the Windows family by Microsoft is almost here. Windows XP is Microsoft's latest creation. It is suppose to be faster and more stable and have the NT engine built in it so it can handle more complex tasks. For home users this is something to look forward to but for the business users it isn't much new.

Windows XP also includes and new interface that is almost as much as a change from Windows 3.x to Windows 95. The start menu is constructed different and has different dimensions. You can change the interface to the classic Windows look if you would like but the new look is quite appealing. More items bundled in with XP is Media Player 7.1 and Internet Explorer 6. More tools were also made for the Windows Movie Maker. Personally I never really liked the movie maker that came with Windows ME. There is also some CD creation tools that come with Windows XP.

The minimum system requirements for the Windows XP Home are the following:
a 300-MHz Intel Pentium II or compatible processor (or better), 128MB or more RAM (4GB maximum), 2GB of free hard drive space, an SVGA Plug and Play monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, a 12X or faster CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, a network adapter (to take advantage of networking capabilities), and Internet access.

Personally I'm not sure if I'm going to get Windows XP right away. I like the new interface and it's reliability. Keep in mind that they are some hidden ways for Microsoft to monitor what you do on your pc when using the new OS. Also you won't be able to use the same CD for two computers that you own.
